Dear

You have received a letter. Do open it, and see what it says.

D E A R F R I E N D,

I noticed you crying in your room the other day.

Looking forlorn.

I knew that all that had happened had been weighing on your heart. Overwhelmingly so. To the point were you feel exhausted.

And not just exhausted because you crawl into bed each night at no earlier than 3am. But because when you do crawl into your bed, the flood of thoughts that swirl in your mind are an endless cacophony of noise.

The kind of noise that an old tv would make: all high static and squabbles and screeches.

It may even feel as though you are losing the will to uplift yourself. Something that you have learned to do overtime, habitually, somehow feeling strained.

You’re the kind to work hard, always. Life gets tough and you learn to shoulder it, especially on your own. But none of this has been even a little bit easy. None of it coasting.

But.

I want you to remember that you are not alone.

It’s why I wrote this letter, really.

And not just to say that. But to also remind you of your strengths, your abilities, and your lovely creative soul that glows even in the darkest of worlds.

Do you know? Though I bet you already do: you’ve got that clever sort of mind—you know the one! The one that sees the little joys in the strangest of places.

The one that whips up ideas seemingly from nothingness—like watching the ice cream man pull down the lever of the soft serve machine, and with an expert twist, the ice cream wiggles out of its sleeping lair to arrange itself on a sugar cone in that perfect vanilla swirl.

Your values? Skates on ice, gliding free as a bird. Drawing the loveliest patterns. Keeping you balanced as you strike even the most complicated landings, the most daring stunts that test your limits.

You do not forget who you are easily.

And when it feels as though some part of you is desperately seeking to be nurtured and cared for, you turn to it: like a flower opening to the sun, and the sun lighting it just so.

For the most part, you know how to give yourself what you need. Still, I know that the times when you don’t.. you feel uncertain where to go for help.

But even that, you’re figuring out. (and what a learning process it continues to be!) I’ll say it again: you’re not alone. You have me, you have others. Even the quiet, secret wonder you may not always see; going about with love and knowing, setting things in place just for you.

It’s out of way, but, can you do something for me?

Don’t forget to watch that one anime show again. the one that reminds you of your magical girl mission.

Dance around your room, to your favorite electronic pop song. (You’ve got a few.)

Make up the lyrics to that one melody still living and breathing inside of you. And sing.

Let go of whatever expectation that one mister whomever shoved in your face. Yes, You don’t have to follow the footseps of others or the demands of the machine.

You can still make your own way. Even with all the doubts that you feel. And no, you don’t have to suffer and suffer and suffer while you do it!

I know you have that misconception, that things will be tedious forever. I mean yes, there will be challenges, and yes there will be pain—but you will have fun again and again as you go your way, you will find joy, you will create systems and new patterns to live lighter. You deserve to be free, to play, as you see through what you have chosen for yourself!

Rest, magical girl. Eat well, magical girl. Take it easy and find that even if the sun is setting, the moon will keep you company at night. And soon the sun will rise again tomorrow; shimmering something special through your window.

Never ever forget that your magic and light have chosen the most special of persons to reside in (just as you have chosen them); so certain in who would do them justice and allow them to shine. So certain of you.

You are dear to me, my friend.

Do remember all of these things.

And until we meet again, stay well.

with love♡,

Anastasia

xx.

*I wrote this letter at first to myself in specifics, then wrote it again, a bit differently, for this. Inspired by a suggestion from this article I read about picking yourself up when things get hard. I hope it helps and comforts you, babe.
